HOW TO MAKE AN INDOOR FORT - A LITTLE APARTMENT FUN!

indoor apartment fort

It’s nice to take a moment and slip back into your childhood, and if you have children, finding opportunities to have a bonding session are priceless. Why not build an apartment fort and kill two birds with one stone? Indoor forts are a great childhood memory and an inexpensive way to spend some quality time with your kiddies, so let loose and dig into your inner child - its fort time:

First you will need blankets, sheets, clothespins and thick string.

  1. Let’s begin! Start by finding a wide open space, make sure to move tables, chairs, and other objects to the side of the room.  Now it’s time to build your sheet roof. To begin find sturdy objects - the secret is to use something with enough height that you can slip into even sit-up in -  couches and dining room chairs are a great place to start. Spread the sheets across the furniture. If you would like more height in your fort roof then you can use your string and attach the sheet to higher items like the top of the door or furniture.
  2. Next, you want to make sure your roof is securely fastened to all your anchor furniture; use your clothespin and string to make this happen. Once you have a sturdy roof it is time to build the walls, you can do this by stacking pillows, laying sheets on top of your roof and flowing them down the side, using couch cushions - just get creative anything will do!
  3. Once you have your fort up and running it is time to accessorize. Decorate your apartment fort with twinkly lights, pillows and blankets to give it a cozy, comfortable, feel. Don’t forget the fun items: flashlights, books, board games and music. Basically the fort is your escape route back to your childhood, with your child, so just add what you love and have fun!
  • A good idea is to build your fort around the TV so you don’t miss out on any of your favorite shows while your inside.
  • Just in case you and your lil’ one get hungry during fort living, make sure to bring some bottled drinks and snacks.
  • Darker color blankets will make your fort darker and cave like.

What’s your indoor fort building secret?
